The Team Colorado Philosophy

At Team Colorado Volleyball we take pride in the growth of our sport and our athletes.  Our first priority at Team Colorado is to grow empowered and strong young people through the confines of our sport. We truly believe, by building a confident player, we are also building a confident person off the court as well.

Team Colorado Training Philosophy:

Team Colorado has adopted an “academy style” training philosophy.  At each practice we combine all of our players and spend time training individual skills and positions.  This ensures all of our players get a chance to focus on individual growth as well as team growth.  We believe we are able to gain skill and knowledge by putting each player in a position at practice to work on their individual efforts to help their team.  They are able to gain individual position IQ to bring back to their teams during team training and competition.  By doing this we free up coaches to lead positions they are experienced in and each player gets the highest level of coaching we have at EVERY POSITION.

Team Colorado also understands that we have to provide an opportunity for each of our players to gain experience in live play.  We split our time with “academy style” training and live game play.  We believe this training style offers the most well rounded approach for each of our players.  We also believe that it helps develop skills that each player can take into the next step of their careers.

Team Colorado Coaching Philosophy:

Within the Team Colorado “academy style” training philosophy, we also believe this aids in our ability to develop and train our coaching staff.  We are able to utilize our lead coaches during practice to help develop our new coaches and help them gain confidence in their coaching abilities.  We believe by pairing our new coaches with our more experienced coaches, during position training, they are able to learn new skills and grow their knowledge of the game.

At Team Colorado we have also utilized master coaches to help empower and teach our coaching staff.  We use our master coaches to help practice plan for individual training sessions.  They are also available to aid in drill planning and team preparation.

Team Colorado Team Philosophy:

Team Colorado offers two levels of competition; both levels have distinct philosophies and purposes.  We offer Club level and National level teams at almost all of our age groups.  All Team Colorado teams provide a high level of training within the “academy style” training philosophy while also including a focus on competitive success.

Team Colorado National teams’ primary goal is to compete at a National Championship Tournament (USA Nationals or AAU Nationals).  As a result the players that put the team in the best position to compete will receive playing time.  Playing time is 100% earned, therefore these teams are geared towards the athlete and family that wants to compete at the highest possible level while expanding their knowledge of the game. There is considerably more travel involved with a National team and a higher cost.

Team Colorado Club teams’ goal is to field the most competitive team possible while still providing in-game opportunities for all the athletes. The focus here is more geared towards development while still striving for competitive success. While each athlete can expect a certain percentage of playing time they are not guaranteed equal playing time. As a result playing time is still earned. There may be an athlete that plays 100% of the time and another athlete that plays 20% of the time, but there will be some playing time guaranteed for all athletes. Club teams will generally only travel within the state, however it is still a Team Colorado goal for all teams to strive to qualify for a National Tournament.
